Kia Seltos Vs. 2020 Hyundai Creta Comparison and Review

A Detailed Comparison between Kia Seltos and 2020 Hyundai Creta.

Kia Seltos Vs. 2020 Hyundai Creta

The first-generation Hyundai Creta soon after its launch in 2015 became the market leader in the SUV segment.

The beloved SUV from Hyundai with its class-leading features dominated the top position and looked destined for the same in the near future.

But Kia Motors had different plans. Their newly launched Kia Seltos knocked Hyundai Creta from its perch and became the new leader in the ever so competitive SUV segment.

On 17th March Hyundai launched its second-generation 2020 Hyundai Creta.

The aggressive pricing of Hyundai Creta speaks volumes of their intentions to dethrone Kia Seltos and reclaim the top position which was once their very own.

We are all set for a fierce battle between two formidable Korean automobile giants.

Are you confused to choose between the two? Do you want to know the bells and whistles of both highly-rated mid-sized SUVs?

Well, here we come up with a detailed comparison of Kia Seltos Vs. 2020 Hyundai Creta.

Both the SUVs are built on the same platform and have the same 2610 mm wheelbase and 17-inch alloys wheels. Though both the SUVs share the same platform, their looks are still worlds apart.

Kia Seltos Exteriors:

Kia Seltos has a remarkable appearance and a bold character. Exactly what you want to see in a mid-size SUV.

Kia Seltos sports a clean line upfront with LEDs that extend to the grille.

It comes with signature Tiger nose grill and vertically stacked fog lamps which are called as Ice cube LED lamps.

On the rear side the sharp-looking tail lamps connect with chrome plate along with a chiseled rear bumper that completes a very modern look.

Hyundai Creta Exteriors:

As opposed to its counterpart, Hyundai Creta carries a more extroverted look. Hyundai Creta gets an all-new front fascia with a three-dimensional cascading grille and sculped bumper with skid plates.

2020 Hyundai Creta comes up with Kona like DRLs and projector headlamps neatly placed below them.

The petal-shaped alloy wheels further add to the flamboyant look.

Kia Seltos Interiors:

Kia Seltos comes with high quality, premium looking interiors with a two-tone colour scheme of black and beige which gives the interior a very upmarket feel.

You also have an option of an all-black theme for some trim variants.

You can find the right driving posture very easily, due to the seat and steering adjustments on offer. The flat-bottom steering wheel further enhances the driving experience.

Also, the rear-seat occupants will find the legroom decent and quite comfy.

Kia Seltos also comes equipped with ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, push-button start, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and in-car WiFi.

Hyundai Creta Interiors:

Contrary to the exterior looks, 2nd Gen Hyundai Creta opts for fairly conventional interiors.

Like Seltos, Hyundai Creta also comes with beige and black upholstery which equally matches the standards of Kia Seltos.

As opposed to the higher placed infotainment system in Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta features a centrally located, landscape-oriented 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Given the fact that both the SUVs have the same wheelbase, the cabin room remains identical.

Both the SUVs are equipped with eSIM connected car technology, but additional BlueLink system of Hyundai Creta comparatively gives us more options like voice-based commands for the sunroof.

Engine and Performance:

Kia Seltos:

Kia Seltos and 2020 Hyundai Creta both share the same engines and same gearbox options.

BS-6 complaint Kia Seltos comes with three engine variants: 1.5-litre petrol engine, 1.5 litre Diesel engine and 1.4-litre Turbo Petrol engine.

The 3 engine variants comes mated with 3 automatic transmission options namely, 7 DCT, IVT and 6AT along with 6-speed manual transmission. This gives the buyers a lot of options to choose from.

Hyundai Creta:

In terms of engine options, the new BS6 complaint 2nd Generation Hyundai Creta offers a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that is available with an option of both a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission.

Like Kia Seltos you also have an option of a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine available with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

As both the mid-size SUVs share the same engine and gearbox options, there is no change in the generated torque or power figures.

The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine produces a power of 115 bhp and a peak torque of 144 Nm. While the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine delivers a power of 115 bhp while a higher torque of 250 Nm.

The 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine churns out an impressive 140 bhp of power and a peak torque of 242 Nm.

The fuel economy also remains almost the same with Creta having a slight edge here.

The difference is quite small but we are quite sure the affable Hyundai Salespersons won’t let you go without highlighting the very fact.

Final Verdict:

Kia Seltos:

Kia Motors took a huge gamble, building a new SUV from scratch. but that gamble has paid them huge dividends. They not only sustained the competition in the segment but emerged as the outright leaders.

Kia Seltos has had some small price hikes since its launch but remains a very reasonably priced SUV.

The entry-level Kia Seltos Petrol variant is priced at Rs. 9.89 lakh and the entry-level diesel variant is being priced at Rs. 10.34 lakh.

Hyundai Creta:

2020 Hyundai Creta is launched at a killer price tag of Rs. 9.99 lakh, for both entry-level petrol and diesel engines.

As both the mid-sized SUVs have a lot of similarities in powertrain as well as the feature list there isn’t a lot of difference between the price tag of the two for entry-level variants.

The only significant difference comes from the turbo-petrol engine. The starting variant for the turbo-petrol engine for Kia Seltos with a manual gearbox starts at Rs. 13.79 lakh.

The Creta’s turbo-petrol engine with only DCT option is priced at Rs. 16.16 lakh while the DCT equipped Kia Seltos is priced at Rs. 16.29 lakh.

On paper, both Kia Seltos Vs. 2020 Hyundai Creta comparison is quite identical in terms of engine options, features as well as pricing.

The intentions of both aren’t any different either that is to dominate the mid-size SUV segment.

Hyundai has put their best foot forward with their 2nd generation Hyundai Creta and only time will tell if they are successful to dethrone Kia Seltos and emerge as the new leader of this highly competitive niche.

Tata Harrier, MG Hector, and Renault Duster also have high aspirations and wish to finish high on the podium.

As of now, there seems to be only one fierce battle for the top position in the mid-sized SUV segment i.e. Kia Seltos Vs. 2020 Hyundai Creta.
